Return of the Artful Dodger

If the arrival of spring isn’t enough incentive to leave your desk at lunch, then the return of the Artful Dodger lecture series should be. Every Wednesday in April, the art center will host a lunchtime lecture at noon by an engaging faculty member. The talk, which is led by someone who’s not an art historian, is centered on a specific artwork and is a relaxed and informal discussion in which professors share personal experiences and interpretations. Lucy Johnson, professor of anthropology, will kick off the lecture series on April 2. Her lecture “These Beautifully Rendered Tools Can’t Only Be Allegorical!” will examine and discuss Felice Boscaratti’s painting Atlas Maintaining the Balance of the World.

Film for all

While it’s still a bit too chilly to enjoy a film from your lawn chair, the art center’s Out of Shape film series will begin its semester-long run of films inside and will eventually be moving outside as weather permits. The series, which reflects interpretations of the human form and its distortions, features a new film every Thursday night through June 5. April’s films include Eyes Without a Face, Seconds, Pumping Iron, and Altered States. The films will be shown in Taylor 203 at 7:30pm and eventually outside on the lawn adjacent to the art center, where they will be shown closer to 8:00pm.
