POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Holocaust survivor and professor emerita of German Ruth Klüger will discuss "The Aftermath: Living with Memories of the Holocaust" on Tuesday April 8, at 7:30pm in the Aula of Ely Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

Klüger is the author of several volumes of literary criticism and an award-winning authority on German literature, particularly works by the authors Gotthold Ephraim Lessing and Bernd Heinrich Wilhelm von Kleist. "Still Alive: A Holocaust Girlhood Remembered" is Klüger's highly regarded memoir.

Born in Vienna in 1931, Ruth Klüger was deported with her mother to the Theresienstadt concentration camp, then moved to Auschwitz, and later to the Christianstadt camp. Following World War II she settled in the Bavarian town of Straubing and studied philosophy and history at the University of Regensburg.

Klüger later emigrated to the U.S. and studied English and German. She went on to teach at several colleges before receiving appointments at Princeton University and the University of California-Irvine.
