POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Distinguished historian Barbara Weinstein will deliver a lecture entitled "The Color of Modernity: São Paulo and the Whitening of Brazilian Regional History" on Wednesday, February 13, at Vassar College. The lecture will take place in Sanders Classroom Auditorium (Room 212) at 5:30pm. It is free and open to the public.

Weinstein, a professor of history at New York University who specializes in twentieth-century Brazil, is this year's Charles C. Griffen Lecturer at Vassar College.

A product of Yale University’s doctoral program in Latin American history, she taught at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and the University of Maryland before joining the New York University faculty in 2007. She is the author of several books, including The Amazon Rubber Boom, 1850-1920 (Stanford University Press, 1983) and For Social Peace in Brazil: Industrialists and the Remaking of the Working Class in São Paulo, 1920-1964 (University of North Carolina Press, 1997). In 2007, she served as the president of the American Historical Association.
