Twelfth Annual Summer Music Series at Vassar College Begins July 8, 2007

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Vassar's Twelfth Annual Summer Music Series, July 8-21, will include a performance of Spanish composer Isaac Albéniz's piano masterpiece; chamber music by Mozart, Beethoven, and Vassar Music Professor Richard Wilson; and an evening of intimate jazz music.

[Left: Blanca Uribe] The series opens on July 8 at the Skinner Hall of Music with Vassar Professor Emeritus Blanca Uribe's performance of Suite Iberia, widely regarded as composer Isaac Albéniz's greatest, and most difficult, work. Later in the summer, Blanca Uribe, will be awarded the coveted Albéniz Medal in Camprodón, Spain, in the town in which Albéniz was born. A pianist and composer, Albéniz was a child prodigy best known for his piano works based on Spanish folk music.

[Left: Sophie Shao] On July 15, Violinist Rolf Schulte will join faculty members Sophie Shao on cello and Richard Wilson on piano for "An Afternoon of Chamber Music." Finally, associate professor of music Brian Mann and friends will offer "An Evening of Intimate Jazz" July 21.
