POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Hugh Florenz Butts, a preeminent psychiatrist and scholar, will discuss "Opposite Sides of the Same Crazed Coin: The Contributions of African Americans and European Americans to the Evolution and Erosion of African American Family Life in America" on Thursday, April 26, at 5:30 p.m., in the Villard Room of the College Center.
This Fourth Biennial Norman E. Hodges Endowed Lecture on Race and American Law is free and open to the public.
[Left: Dr. Hugh Florenz Butts] A Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Butts has held academic appointments at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, The New York State Psychiatric Institute, Meharry Medical College, and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is currently the Medical Director of the Chemical and Substance Abuse Program and Senior Staff Psychiatrist at St. Vincent's Mental Health Services, where he works in forensic psychiatry.
In addition to his private psychiatric and psychoanalytic practices in New York City, Butts is a consultant to the Episcopal Diocese of New York and the Queens County Criminal Justice System.
