POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — If you are looking for a life in theater, we are looking for you.

Vassar College and New York Stage and Film are now accepting applications for the Powerhouse Summer Theater Apprentice Program – one of the leading theater immersion programs in the country that provides high caliber, student-centered training by accomplished professionals.

Now in its twenty-third year, the program is a unique collaboration between a prestigious liberal arts college, Vassar, and an established professional theater company, New York Stage and Film.

Members of the Powerhouse Summer Theater Apprentice Program perform Iphegenia during the 2005 season.

Apprentices in the Powerhouse program choose a discipline (acting, playwriting, or directing) and then work alongside some of the country's leading and emerging theater practitioners for six weeks, observing and participating in the process through which new works are brought to life. Many of Powerhouse's professional productions have gone on to appear on Broadway and off, and to win theater's top honors – including several Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize.

Throughout the summer, apprentices also work in their own theater company. They are writing, performing, and directing two-minute plays and site-specific work – and each week host table readings of works in process by the apprentice writers. All acting apprentices are cast in one of three outdoor productions of adapted and abridged classical texts. Works by Shakespeare, Chekhov and Aeschylus have been presented, all under the direction of professional directors and writers.

APPRENTICE PROGRAM APPLICATION PROCESS

The Powerhouse Summer Theater Apprentice Program will run from June 15 through July 29, 2007 on Vassar's Hudson Valley campus. Applicants must be seventeen years of age or older, and include faculty and professional recommendations, as well as personal statements.
