POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The public is invited to observe a master class for voice students and a short recital by Metropolitan Opera tenor William Burden on Tuesday, March 7 at 3:00 p.m. in Skinner Hall of Music, Vassar College. This event is free and open to the public.
Burden's recital will include favorite arias from Donizetti's L'Elisir D'Amore and the Mozart classic, "Ich baue ganz," from Abduction from the Seraglio. He will also sing four songs by Henri Duparc.
Burden opened the San Francisco Opera's 2005-2006 season as Lindoro in Rossini's Italian Girl in Algiers and returned to the Metropolitan Opera in December to create the role of Gilbert Griffiths in the world premiere of Tobias Picker's new opera, An American Tragedy. In January, Burden returned to the Opéra National de Paris for the revival of Bohuslav Martinu's Julietta. This season also marks Burden's debuts at the Houston Grand Opera as Nerone in Claudio Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea, and at Madrid's Teatro Real as the Chevalier de la Force in Francis Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmélites.
In concert, Burden has performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Florida Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and Les Arts Florissants at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Barcelona and Lyon. Next season he returns to the Atlanta Symphony for Mozart's "Great" Mass in C Minor with Donald Runnicles conducting.
Burden's recordings include Anatol in Samuel Barber's Vanessa with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Musique adorable: The Songs of Emmanuel Chabrier.
