International Troupe Actors From the London Stage to Perform Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY –- Actors From The London Stage, the renowned international theatre company currently in residence at Vassar College, will perform William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night� on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 6, 7, and 8, at 7:30 p.m., in the Martel Theater of the Center for Drama and Film. The performances are free and open to the public.

Actors From the London Stage members hail from such prestigious theater groups as the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal National Theatre of Great Britain, and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, among others. Classical actors Peter Harding, Rina Mahoney, Richard Howard, Chris Donnelly and Claudia Elmhirst will perform all the roles in the 30-year-old company’s production of “Twelfth Night� at Vassar (http://www.nd.edu/~aftls/).

The Shakespearean comedy follows the unlikely and uproarious path of Viola (Claudia Elmhirst), a young woman separated from her twin brother after a shipwreck. For her safety, Viola disguises herself as a boy named Cesario, and gains employment with the Count Orsino (Chris Donnelly), with whom she falls in love. Orsino sends Cesario to woo the Countess Olivia (Rina Mahoney), who instead falls in love with Cesario, creating a hopeless and hilarious love triangle.
