On Wednesday, April 23, at 5p.m., Professor Cevdet Akcay, Koc University, Istanbul, Turkey will present the lecture, "The War: The View from Turkey, the Infant Democracy and Troubled economy on the Border". The Lecture is sponsored by the Offices of the President and Dean of Faculty, International Studies, and Political Science and Sociology at Vassar College.
Professor Cevdet Akcay, of the Department of Economics, Koc University, specializes in econometrics, monetary and macroeconomic theory. He has published numerous papers including, most recently, "The Turkish Banking Sector Two Years after the Crisis – A Snapshot of the Sector and Current Risks", forthcoming in "Turkish Studies," vol.4, no.2, Summer 2003, Frank Cass Publishers; London, UK. Professor Akcay is also a member of many economic organizations and is an Advisory Board Member, Banks Association of Turkey, 2001- present. This lecture will address the political and economic dimensions of Turkey's policies in the context of the present, ongoing conflict. The lecture is free and open to the public.
