Jose Padron, one of Cuba's most important contemporary filmmakers, will show and discuss LEO BROUWER, a documentary about the world-renowned Cuban musician, composer, and conductor, Wednesday, April 2, at 7 p.m. in the Nora Ann Wallace '73 Auditorium in Blodgett Hall.
Padron, Cuba's most prolific documentarian, has demonstrated a resilient and artistic vision spanning 20 years, chronicling his time in countless film newsreels that express his sensitive and controversial opinions on socio-economic issues. Although a supporter of Castro's revolution, Jose Padron has demonstrated remarkable objectivity and frankness about his country's totalitarian regime. Padron, finally permitted to travel outside of his native land, is the first filmmaker living and working in Cuba to visit the Vassar campus.
