Elly Ameling in Residence, Skinner Recital Hall March 3, 2003

On Monday, March 3, The Vassar College Department of Music will welcome as musician in residence Elly Ameling, one of the most admired lieder singers of the late 20th century. Born in Holland, Ms. Ameling began performing in 1953. During her 40 plus year career, she has performed around the world, making her debuts in Britain in 1956 and in New York in 1968. Her many honors include a knighthood for services to music, presented to her in 1971 by the Queen Beatrice of the Netherlands

Ms. Ameling's public presentation will begin at 4:00pm with a conversation with Vassar faculty members Robert Osborne, lecturer, Music department, and Günter Klabes, associate professor, German Studies. A master class will begin at 5pm and include six students from the voice department, chosen following auditions. The repertoire will focus on German lieder and feature the songs of Hugo Wolf, celebrating his centennial this year, as well as other composers.
