Elizabeth McAlister delivers lecture at Vassar College, February 6

Wesleyan University professor of religion Elizabeth McAlister will deliver a lecture on "Trans-national Black Popular Culture: Religion and Festival in Haiti and Brooklyn" on Thursday, February 6, at 7 p.m., in Taylor Hall, room 203. The lecture is part of the Frederic C. Wood Lecture Series, presented by the Department of Religion, and open to the public.

McAlister graduated from Vassar in 1985. She has earned several masters degrees, and her Ph.D in American Studies from Yale University. McAlister has studied and written about Haitian culture and religion and how it has experienced a trans-national co-existence with diverse American cultures and religions. McAlister has also produced several CDs of Haitian music, some of which will be featured in the lecture.
