Twyla Tharp to give a lecture and demonstration at Vassar, February 22

Choreographer Twyla Tharp will give a lecture and demonstration called "Kinetic Energy" on Friday, February 22, at 4 p.m. in the gymnasium in the Athletic and Fitness Center at Vassar College.
The event, sponsored by the Office of the Dean of the Faculty, is free and open to the public.
Tharp is the founder of Twyla Tharp Dance. She has created more than 90 dances for music ranging from Jelly Roll Morton to Beethoven to Bruce Springsteen. Her work combines classical and modern dance and encompasses the fields of dance, film, television/video, and theater. Tharp has choreographed for the American Ballet Theatre, the City Center Joffrey Ballet, and the Paris Opera Ballet. Her film choreography includes "Hair" (1978), "Ragtime' (1980), and the Academy Award winning "Amadeus" (1984). In 1985, Tharp received Emmy Awards for choreography and co-direction for "Baryshnikov by Tharp" and she directed and choreographed the Broadway version of "Singin' in the Rain."
