Vassar students win prestigious fellowships

Vassar senior Kristin Rule of Sarasota, Florida has been honored with the award of a full Fulbright grant to study in Russia next year. Junior David N. Allen of Springfield, Vermont and sophomore Katrina Przyjemski of Carlisle, Massachusetts have been named as recipients of the prestigious Goldwater and Udall scholarships. Senior Martha Clark '02 of Oneonta is the recipient of the Herbert Scovill, Jr. Peace Fellowship.

Rule is also the recipient of the Gates-Cambridge Fellowship and a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. She is a chemistry major and an active member of the Vassar Repertory Dance Theater.

The Goldwater Scholarship Award, in recognition of excellence in math and natural sciences, will provide Allen with funds to help cover the costs of another year of undergraduate study. Allen was one of 309 students chosen from a field of 1,155 nominees.

Przyjemski is being honored with the Morris K. Udall Scholarship Award for excellence in environmental studies. She is an environmental studies major who will declare a double major in philosophy next year. Approximately 75 students each year are named Morris K. Udall scholars.

Clark's fellowship supports a six-month placement in Washington, DC with an organization or agency that deals with key issues of peace and security. Clark is a political science major, with an economics correlate. She transferred to Vassar from the University of Vermont and is interested in defense policy and arms control. The daughter of Angela M. Clark of Oneonta, New York, and Peter D. Clark of Morris, New York, Clark is a graduate of The Madeira School, McLean, Virginia.
