Vassar/New York Stage and Film will present a reading of an untitled new play by Tom Donaghy at the Susan Stein Shiva Theater on the Vassar College campus from Friday, June 28, through Sunday, June 30. "A New Play" will be directed by Michael Wilson.
In this idiosyncratic and keenly-observed family drama May and Philip are choosing an architect to renovate their new house while their family undergoes a restoration of its own.
Donaghy of Olive Bridge in Ulster County is best known for his plays Plays: "The Beginning of August," "Down the Shore," "Minutes from the Blue Route' (Atlantic Theater Company), "From Above' (Playwrights Horizons), and "Northeast Local" (Lincoln Center Theater). He also wrote the screenplay for "The Dadshuttle."
Off-Broadway, Wilson directed "Necessary Targets," "Defying Gravity," and "The Red Devil Battery Sign." He is the artistic director of Hartford Stage.
Continuing this season, the Susan Stein Shiva Theater will house special presentations of Arthur Kopit's "Discovery of America" (Friday July 5-Sunday, July 7), "The Violence Project" conceived and directed by Elizabeth Swados (Friday, July 19-Sunday, July 21), and Edwin Sanchez's "Diosa" (Friday, August 2-Sunday, August 4).
Since its founding in 1985, the Powerhouse theater program at Vassar College has fostered emerging artists, produced new works by some of the nation's most innovative young playwrights, and trained aspiring actors, directors, and designers for theater careers.
