‘A Service of Lessons and Carols,’ December 8 at Vassar College

Vassar College's annual "Service of Lessons and Carols" is scheduled on Sunday, December 8, at 7 p.m. in the college Chapel.

The concert is sponsored by the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life. The event is free of charge and open to the public.

Students, faculty, administration, and staff will give Advent and Christmas readings. Rebecca Rosenbaum, adjunct instructor and director of choral activities, will direct the Vassar Lessons and Carols Choir, accompanied by organist Merellyn Gallagher.

In addition to the choir, the service will feature musical offerings by the independent student group Alive!, a Christian acappella group. The Chamber Singers of the Vassar College Women's Chorus will also sing, conducted by students Erica Dunkle and Beth Morgan.

Rosenbaum received her B.A. in music from Vassar College and her MM and MMA in choral conducting from Yale University, where she is currently completing the doctoral program. She is the music director of the Elm City Girls' Choir of New Haven and teaches music theory at Vassar.

Gallagher is Vassar's organist, and has been a member of the music faculty since 1972. She has served in various positions in the Central Hudson Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and was the festival organist for two Dutchess County interfaith music festivals.
