World premiere by legendary classical guitar duo, at Vassar College, October 27

The internationally acclaimed classical guitar duo, Evangelos and Liza, will premiere original music by Vassar lecturer Terry Champlin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, in the Skinner Recital Hall of Vassar College.

The husband and wife duo, Evangelos Assimakopoulos and Liza Zoe, will perform music by DeFalla, Chopin, and Granados. The concert is sponsored by the Vassar College Department of Music, and is free and open to the public.

Evangelos and Liza have performed at some of the world's most famous concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Conzertgebauw, Wigmore Hall, La Theatre de la Ville, and Lincoln Center. They usually appear as duo soloists with well-known symphony orchestras such as those of Montreal, Michigan, Cincinnati, and Birmingham, as well as teaching seminars and holding master classes at universities and academies.

The duo began their studies of the guitar in 1953 at the National Conservatory of Athens with Dimitris Fampas. After receiving first prizes "with excellence " upon graduating, the couple shared the first two prizes in the International Competition in Naples, Italy. For four consecutive intervals they were awarded scholarships to study with the Presti-Lagoya duo in France and with Andr»s Segovia in Spain.

Both Greek and foreign composers have written pieces specifically for Evangelos and Liza, who enrich their repertoire with original transcriptions and arrangements. They have produced several records and CDs.
