Islam, modernity, and conflict to be discussed at Vassar College, Monday, September 30

"Islam and Modernity" is the subject of writer Farzin Vahdat's lecture at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, September 30, in Rockefeller Hall 200, Vassar College.

The address, which is part of a series of lectures sponsored by the Vassar College Task Force on the Responses to September 11, is free and open to the public.

Vahdat's most famous work, "God and Juggernaut," discusses Iran's intellectual encounter with modernity, from its mid-19th century beginning through the present. Vahdat will offer an interpretive understanding of the process of modernity, especially within the context of the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran. He is currently a professor of comparative religion at Tufts University.
