Elizabeth Eismeier has been named vice president for finance and administration at Vassar College and will assume her position effective July 1.
Eismeier is currently financial vice president and treasurer at Colgate University, a position she has held since 1987. She has been a member of the president's staff at Colgate since 1980, when she became associate provost, working with the academic departments and programs, a position she held until 1985. From 1985 to 1987, she was associate vice president for business and finance.
"I am delighted that Betsy Eismeier will be joining our senior staff. Her impressive career in higher education has given her extraordinary skills," said Vassar President Frances Fergusson. "She has worked extensively with faculty and academic programs in her years as associate provost and with complex financial planning and management for the past dozen years as Colgate's vice president for finance. She understands the full range of issues that affect a campus like Vassar."
A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Smith College with a major in American Studies, Eismeier also holds an MBA from Yale University. She is a member of the Smith College Investments Committee and is the former treasurer of the board of directors of the Smith Alumnae Association.
Active in her community, she was a founding board member of the Partnership for Community Development in Hamilton, N.Y. A mother of three teenagers, she was also the manager of the New Hartford Girls Hockey Club and a Girl Scout leader. She served as a board member, treasurer, and vice president of the Chenango Nursery School from 1986 until 1993.
She is married to Theodore J. Eismeier, professor of government at Hamilton College.
