Pulitzer nominee Wallace Terry will discuss the Vietnam War and Martin Luther King’s dream, at Vassar February 8

Pulitzer Prize nominee Wallace Terry will deliver a lecture titled "Heroic Hearts: How the Dream of Martin Luther King Came True on the Battlefields of Vietnam" on Thursday, February 8, at 5 p.m., in the Villard Room, College Center, Vassar College.

The lecture, commemorating African American History Month, is presented in conjunction with an exhibition of sculpture and photography celebrating the 25th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War. Terry's talk, which is free of charge and open to the public, is co-sponsored by the Program in Africana Studies, Program in American Culture, Department of History, and the Office of the Dean of the Faculty.

Beginning in 1968, when his son David was 10 months old, Terry was a war correspondent for Time magazine in South Vietnam. "The Way We War" is a collaboration of his photographs from the war, and David Terry's sculpture, which brings the images to a contemporary reality.

Wallace Terry is well known for his 1984 best-selling book, "Bloods: An Oral History of the Vietnam War by Black

Veterans," which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and named best book of the year by the Baltimore Sun.

The exhibition, "The Way We War," including photographs by Wallace Terry and sculpture by David Terry, will open on Wednesday, February 7, in the James W. Palmer III '90 Gallery, College Center, Vassar College. It will remain on display through Wednesday, March 7.
