Fischer Duo to perform world premiere of a Richard Wilson composition, February 9 at Vassar

The Fischer Duo, featuring Norman Fischer on cello and Jeanne Kierman on piano will perform the world premiere of Richard Wilson's "Motivations: Three Pieces for Cello and Piano" in Vassar College's Skinner Recital Hall on Friday, February 9, at 8 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

Wilson is the Mary Conover Mellon Professor of Music at Vassar. He has composed some 70 works ranging in medium from solo tuba to full orchestra. These have been performed in major halls in New York, Washington, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, San Francisco, London, Berlin, Frankfurt, Zurich, Milan, Graz, Stockholm, Leningrad, Tokyo, and Bogota, as well as the Aspen Music Festival, the Monday Evening Concerts in Los Angeles, and at many American colleges and universities.

The program, sponsored by the Department of Music, will also include Claude Debussy's "Nocturne et Scherzo," Frederic Chopin's Sonata in G Minor, Beethoven's Op. 65, Sonata in C Major, Op. 102, No. 1, and Astor Piazzola's "Le Grande Tango."

In nearly 30 years of playing together, the Fischer Duo has delighted chamber music lovers across the country. The duo has been widely praised by music critics for its choice of repertoire. Thoroughly versed in the classical repertoire of Brahms, Beethoven, and Schumann, the Fischer Duo has acquired an equally impressive reputation for rediscovering neglected works of the past and for commissioning new pieces by gifted contemporary composers.
