Chicago String Quartet performs work by Vassar’s Richard Wilson, February 17

The Chicago String Quartet will perform Richard Wilson's String Quartet #4 in Vassar College's Skinner Recital Hall on Saturday, February 17, at 8 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

Wilson, the Mary Conover Mellon Professor of Music at Vassar, has composed some 70 works ranging in medium from solo tuba to full orchestra. These have been performed in major halls in New York, Washington, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, San Francisco, London, Berlin, Frankfurt, Zurich, Milan, Graz, Stockholm, Leningrad, Tokyo, and Bogota, as well as the Aspen Music Festival, the Monday Evening Concerts in Los Angeles, and at many American colleges and universities.

The program, sponsored by the Vassar College Department of Music, will also include the String Quartet in D Major, Op. 76 by Joseph Hayden, and the String Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 130 by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Founded in 1995, the Chicago String Quartet, featuring violinist Joseph Genualdi, violinist Jasmine Lin, violist Rami Solomonow, and cellist Christopher Costanza, was originally a quartet-in-residence at DePaul University. The quartet has performed throughout the world and has established a reputation for vibrant musicianship, warmth of tone, and a wide stylistic range.

First violinist, Genualdi is currently artistic co-director and founding member of the Chicago Chamber Musicians and is a member of the DePaul University faculty. Until joining the quartet and Chicago Chamber Musicians, second violinist Lin was assistant concertmaster of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Solomonow has been a faculty member at DePaul University since 1982. Costanza is also a member of the DePaul University faculty.
