Ron Samuelson named assistant director of college relations at Vassar

Ron Samuelson of Pleasant Valley has been named assistant director of college relations at Vassar College. Samuelson, a former public access specialist at Scenic Hudson, Inc. and the former executive director of the Cunneen-Hackett Cultural Center, is a 1992 Vassar College graduate.

As assistant director of college relations, Samuelson will write and edit promotional materials for the college, coordinate special events such as Parents Weekend, and coordinate summer programs and sports camps on campus.

At Scenic Hudson Samuelson worked as part of a team to design and implement a stewardship plan for management of approximately 5,000 acres of open space and protected lands in the Hudson River Valley.

From 1994 through 1997, Samuelson was executive director of the Cunneen-Hackett Cultural Center in Poughkeepsie. Under his leadership, Cunneen-Hackett earned funded member status from the Dutchess County Arts Council and attracted new tenants to the not-for-profit organization. He helped organize the first civilian patrol program in the City of Poughkeepsie to improve safety and the city's public image. Samuelson worked with local artists introducing several new programs to the cultural center including, Poetry in Motion, A Day of Art, Silhouette Sculptures, the Oral History Project, Shakespeare in Poughkeepsie, and the Hudson River Summer Music Festival. He received a Dutchess County Executive's Arts Award for creating a venue for visual and performing artists in downtown Poughkeepsie.
