Computer graphics artist/theorist Diane Gromala to speak at Vassar, March 7

Diane Gromala, Associate Professor in the School of Literature, Communication and Culture at Georgia Tech, where she teaches in the graduate program in Information Design and Technology, will give a talk entitled "Ontologies of Remediated Flesh" at Vassar College on Wednesday, March 7, at 7:30pm-9:30pm in Sanders Auditorium.

Gromala's critical analyses of virtual media is informed by her work as an artist and designer in Virtual Reality (VR) and other forms of digital media. This artwork focuses on subjectivity and the corporeal. Her articles have appeared in numerous art and design journals,and her virtual reality artwork has been performed and presented in Canada, the US, Europe, the Middle East and aired on the Discovery Channel and the BBC. At Georgia Tech, her courses focus on the cultural and theoretical aspects of new and virtual media.

Gromala is on the Editorial Board of Postmodern Culture, was Chair of SIGGRAPH's Art Gallery in the year 2000, and is a recent recipient of a Senior Fulbright Fellowship.

Throughout the 1980s, Diane Gromala worked as a designer and art director in the corporate realm, most recently at Apple Computer, Inc. Her graduate and undergraduate degrees are from Yale University and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
