Les Murray, an internationally acclaimed Australian poet, will speak at Vassar College on Tuesday, April 3, at 5 p.m. in Sanders Auditorium. Murray will read from his new collected poems, "Learning Human," just released in paperback by Farrar, Straus & Giroux.
His talk, sponsored by the English Department, is free and open to the public.
Murray has won many literary awards, including the Grace Leven Prize (1980 and 1990), the Petrarch Prize (1995), and the prestigious T.S. Eliot Award (1996). In 2000, he was awarded the Queens Gold Medal for Poetry on the recommendation of Ted Hughes.
Murray's latest collection to be published in the United States has been voted a Notable Book for 2001 by the American Library Association.
