Howard Gardner, originator of multiple intelligences theory, to speak at Vassar College, April 24

Howard Gardner, a professor of cognition and education at Harvard University and originator of the theory of multiple intelligences, will lecture at Vassar College Tuesday, April 24, at 5 p.m. in Rockefeller Hall.

Gardner will lecture on how his concepts could be applied at Vassar. His talk will inaugurate Vassar's Carolyn Grant Endowment Fund, a gift from Carolyn Grant Fay (class of 1936) intended to provide support for the further innovation of Vassar's educational methods. Following his talk, there will be a panel discussion including members of the Vassar faculty.

Gardner has written numerous articles arguing that human intelligence cannot be described by any one measure, rather he has developed the theory of multiple intelligences to achieve more personalized curriculum and style of education. He is also an adjunct professor of psychology at Harvard, and at the Boston University School of Medicine. Gardner was awarded the MacArthur Prize, and has published several books.
