Powerhouse presents Tom Donaghy’s ‘Boys and Girls’

Audiences will take a starkly modern look at gender, sexuality, and family when Tom Donaghy's "Boys and Girls" opens on at the Vassar College / New York Stage and Film Susan Stein Shiva Theater on Friday, June 29 for a three-day run ending Sunday, July 1.

Performances are at 8 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, and at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $15.

In "Boys and Girls," two couples with a history of loss and love reach across vast obstacles for the sake of a child, as well as for themselves.

"Boys and Girls" is written and will be directed by Donaghy, author of the plays "Minutes from the Blue Route" (which premiered at the Powerhouse), "From Above," "Northeast Local," "Down the Shore," "The Dadshuttle," and "The Beginning of August," among others. His work has been produced by some of the most prestigious theaters in the country, including the Atlantic Theater Company, the Goodman Theater, Lincoln Center Theater, The Magic, Playwrights Horizons, and Seattle Repertory.

Donaghy's plays are archived on video at the Lincoln Center Library for the Performing Arts and have been published as a collection by Grove/Atlantic. He is the recipient of many honors, including a commission from the Manhattan Theater Club as well as grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, PEN American, the MacDowell Colony, Berilla Kerr Foundations, and most recently the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. Donaghy wrote the television pilot "Half Way Home" for CBS.
