Vassar College Choir and Vassar Women’s Chorus Concert, October 27 in Skinner Recital Hall

The Vassar College Choir and the Vassar Women's Chorus will present a concert of music for one and two choirs at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, in the Skinner Recital Hall of Vassar College. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert features choruses for two separate choirs by composers from the 16th, 17th, and 20th centuries and will make use of the new organ loft in the recital hall. The evening's program also includes a performance of the very moving plea for peace, "Freide auf Erden," written by the Austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg just a few years before the start of World War I. Various other settings of poems and folk songs complete the program.

Charles Kamm, visiting assistant professor of music and director of choral activities conducts the Vassar College Choir. Rebecca Rosenbaum, Vassar class of '97 and adjunct instructor of music, directs the Vassar Women's Chorus.

The Vassar College Choir is the college's auditioned, mixed, large choral ensemble. Currently the choir numbers 55 singers representing all four classes, 26 academic concentrations,

21 states, and one foreign country. The choir toured the U.S. East Coast in March 1998 and England in March 2001.

The Vassar Women's Chorus was formed in the fall of 1997 and currently numbers 45 singers. The ensemble performs on campus and travels. This year the chorus will sing in the Festival of Treble Choruses at Smith College.

Kamm is the founder and director of Reredos Male Ensemble, based in Boston. He earned the B.A. in Music from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, the M.Mus. in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University, and has studied in Vienna, Austria.

Rebecca Rosenbaum is currently an adjunct instructor of music at Vassar College, where she conducts the Vassar Women's Chorus and teaches music theory. Rosenbaum received her B.A. in music from Vassar College and her MM and MMA in choral conducting from Yale University, where she is currently completing the doctoral program. She is also the music director of the Elm City Girls' Choir of New Haven.
