Two sculptures by Isamu Noguchi (1904-1988) have been placed on long-term loan at Vassar College's Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center by the Isamu Noguchi Foundation, Inc. of Long Island City, New York. Noguchi is a major figure in Modernist sculpture as well as a designer of gardens, fountains, and furniture.
The first, entitled "End Piece," from 1974, is a Swedish granite work supported on steel plates. It can be seen in the Blanchette Rockefeller glass pavilion.
The second, entitled "Bird B," carved between 1952-1958, is made of polished Greek marble. It stands in the main galleries just inside the entrance.
The loans were facilitated by Noguchi Foundation trustee Priscilla Morgan (Vassar class of 1941).
Admission to the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center is free. The Loeb is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, from 1 to 5 p.m. The center is wheelchair accessible. For more information, call (845) 437-5632 or visit the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center website.
