David Harvey, one of the world's leading social theorists in urban and environmental issues, will speak on "Geographical Knowledges/Political Powers" in Sanders Auditorium at Vassar College on Tuesday, November 13, at 5:30 p.m.
Harvey's work has reshaped the field of human geography since WW II . He is a distinguished professor at the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center.
Harvey's reflections on the continuing importance of space, place, and nature have attracted considerable critical interest across the humanities and the social sciences. In "Social Justice and the City," "The Condition of Postmodernity," "Justice, Nature and the Geography of Difference," "Spaces of Hope," and in his many other publications, Harvey has exerted enormous interdisciplinary influence.
Harvey's lecture is co-sponsored by the Department of Geology and Geography and the Program in Urban Studies as a featured event in both Geography Awareness Week and the Urban Talk Series.
