Nineteenth-century women in sciences subject of Vassar College lecture, November 8

"American Women of Letters and the Nineteenth-Century Sciences" is the title of a lecture presented by Nina Baym at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, November 8, in the Blanche Brumback Spitzer Auditorium, at Vassar College. The lecture, co-sponsored by the Environmental Studies, American Culture, and Women's Studies programs, Department of English, and the Office of the Dean of the Faculty, is free and open to the public.

Baym is a professor at the University of Illinois, Urbana. She is a noted literary historian and is general editor of the Norton Anthology of American Literature. She has just completed a book on women writers and nineteenth-century science that includes discussion of Vassar astronomer Maria Mitchell.
