Shashi Tharoor to speak at Vassar College, November 1

Shashi Tharoor, diplomat, scholar, and novelist, will lecture at Vassar College on Thursday, November 1, at 5:30 p.m. in the Villard Room, Main Building. His talk, which is free and open to the public, is titled, "From Midnight to the Millennium: Democracy and Identity in Today's India."
Tharoor is interim head of the department of public information and a member of the secretary-general's cabinet at the United Nations. He is the author of "Reasons of State," "The Great Indian Novel," "The Five-Dollar Smile and Other Stories," "Show Business," and the recently published "Riot."
Copies of Tharoor's books will be available for purchase and signing immediately before and after the lecture.
Tharoor's talk, the 2001 Barbara Bailey Brown Lecture, is sponsored by the political science department at Vassar College.
