Michael De Cheke, the chemist whose testimony was central to the Woburn, Mass. toxic waste trial described in the book and movie "A Civil Action," will speak at Vassar College at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2, in Taylor Hall, room 203. De Cheke's talk, titled "A Civil Action Revisited: Legal, Social, and Scientific Lessons of the Woburn Toxic Waste Trial," is sponsored by the Program in Environmental Studies at Vassar. It is free and open to the public.
De Cheke is an analytical chemist and environmental consultant. He was affiliated with Tighe & Bond, an environmental consulting firm based in Westfield, Mass., where he analyzed water, wastewater, soils, and solid waste. He has been a visiting lecturer and visiting professor at Smith College, a visiting lecturer at Trinity College, and an assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts.
