Thomas Sauer and Mark Steinberg to perform at Vassar, February 25

Thomas Sauer, piano, and Mark Steinberg, violin, will perform in Skinner Recital Hall at Vassar College on Friday, February 25, at 8 p.m. This is a rescheduled performance following last week's cancellation due to snow. The concert is free and open to the public.

The program will include works by John Cage, Elliott Carter, Sergei Prokofiev, and Igor Stravinsky. Sauer, praised for his "eloquent pianism" by the New York Times, is active as a solo recitalist, chamber musician, and teacher. A member of the Mannes Trio, ensemble-in-residence at the Mannes College of Music, Sauer also collaborates frequently with noted instrumentalists such as violinist Midori, violist Misha Amory, and cellist Colin Carr. Recent appearances include the Seattle and Salt Bay chamber festivals, performances at the Philharmonie in Berlin and the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, and concerts with the Juilliard, Brentano, and Lark string quartets. Sauer is visiting assistant professor of music at Vassar College.

Steinberg, first violinist of the Brentano Quartet, is an active chamber musician and recitalist. He has performed in chamber music festivals in Holland, Germany, and France, as well as appearing with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Concerto Soloists, and the Kansas City Camerata. Steinberg studied with Louise Behrend, Josef Gingold, and Robert Mann. An advocate of contemporary music, Steinberg has worked closely with many composers and performed with 20th century music ensembles such as Speculum Musicae and Continuum.
