Vassar College’s Asian American Conference, March 31- April 2

"Movement Without Direction: The Refocusing of the Asian American Vision," will be the focus of a weekend-long conference sponsored by the Vassar College Asian Students' Alliance from March 31 through April 2. Admission to the Vassar College Asian American Conference is $20; groups of ten or more will be $10 per person. Registration begins Friday, March 31 at noon.

In keeping with this year's theme the conference will take an in-depth look at where Asian America has been and where it will go. The conference features various workshops led by such facilitators as New York City civil rights activist Rocky Chin, Wellesley College women's studies professor Elena Tajima Creef, and Vassar College Minority Scholar in Residence Joy Lei. Also speaking will be Gary Okihiro, director of Columbia University's Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race; Shirley Hune, Associate Dean and professor of Urban Planning at UCLA's School of Public Policy and Social Research; and Karin Aguilar San Juan, editor of the anthology "The State of Asian American: Activism and Resistance in the 1990s." 5th Platoon, a group of Asian American turntablists, will perform and host the after party.
