Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist, novelist, an playwright Jules Feiffer will give the Alex Krieger '95 Memorial Fund lecture, "My Life and Funny Times," in Taylor Hall Auditorium at Vassar College at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 6.
Feiffer is best known for his internationally syndicated cartoon strip that ran in the Village Voice for 40 years. the New York Times turned to Feiffer when it decided to run the first cartoon in the paper's history and has since commissioned him to create an op-art strip, which appears monthly on the Times op-ed page. His cartoons also appear in The New Yorker and Vanity Fair.
Feiffer is the author of 35 books, including 15 collections of cartoons. Publishers Weekly and the New York Public Library selected his first book for children, "The Man in the Ceiling" as one of the best children's books of 1993. His most recent book, "Bark, George" was Amazon.com's first choice in its list of best picture books of 1999. From his Obie Award winning play "Little Murders" to "Carnal Knowledge," a controversial examination of the tensions caused by sexual liberation, to his Oscar-winning short subject animation, Munro, Feiffer weaves social, political and personal issues into a different way of seeing the world around us.
The Alex Krieger '95 Memorial Fund lecture is named for a member of theVassar College class of 1995 who was killed in an automobile accident in his freshman year. His parents established the fund in his memory to bring writers and humorists to the campus.
