The federal budget surplus and what to do with it is the topic of a lecture at Vassar College, April 24

"What Should We Do With the Big Budget Surplus," the annual Martin H. Crego lecture, is scheduled on Monday, April 24, at 5 p.m. in the Eleanor Butler Sanders Hall at Vassar College.

This presentation, sponosored by the Economics Department, is free of charge and open to the public. John B. Taylor, the Mary and Robert Raymond Professor of Economics at Stanford University, will be the guest speaker. Taylor serves as the director of the Monetary Policy Program at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research and is a research associate with the National Bureau of Economic Research.

Taylor is the author of several textbooks on macroeconomics and monetary policy including "Inflation, Unemployment and Monetary Policy," with coauthor Nobel Laureate Robert Solow. Taylor's most recent article "The Robustness and Efficiency of Monetary Policy Rules as Guidelines for Interest Rate Setting by the European Central Bank," appeared in the Journal of Monetary Economics.
