The Vassar College/New York Stage and Film Powerhouse Apprentice Company will present live radio theater on WVKR (91.3 FM) on Mondays at 6 p.m. through July 31. Featuring original plays written for radio by members of the company, Powerhouse Radio Theater is also acted, directed, and produced by the apprentices.
The second half of each one-hour show features radio theater coordinator Brook Stowe talking with actors, directors, and playwrights about upcoming and ongoing productions by the professional Vassar College/New York Stage and Film company in the Powerhouse and Susan Stein Shiva theaters. The Powerhouse Apprentice Program brings together talented young actors, directors, and playwrights and some of the industry's top talents.
Apprentices develop their material in workshops and readings. Actors, directors, playwrights, and designers all work together to form their own company within the framework of the larger professional theater company.
