Eve Ensler's "Necessary Targets" at Vassar, July 28-30

In "Necessary Targets" a strident young disaster specialist and a pampered urban therapist form an unlikely friendship on a mission of mercy in Bosnia. This new play by Eve Ensler will be presented at Vassar / New York Stage and Film's Susan Stein Shiva Theater from Friday, July 28, through Sunday, July 30, with performances at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Ensler's Obie Award-winning play, "The Vagina Monologues," currently enjoying a sold-out run at off-Broadway's Westside Theater, initiated V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women. Music Theater Group commissioned her new play "Conviction". Ensler's other plays include "Lemonade," "The Depot," "Floating Rhoda and the Glue Man," "Extraordinary Measures," "Ladies," and "Scooncat." Ensler received a 1999 Guggenheim Fellowship in playwriting.

Michael Wilson will direct "Necessary Targets." Wilson returns to New York Stage and Film at Vassar where he has directed several productions, including "Mr. Melancholy," "Servicemen," and "Defying Gravity." In addition to regional and off-Broadway theater, Wilson has directed many resident theaters, including Houston's Alley Theater, where he was associate director from 1990-98. He is currently in his second season as artistic director of Hartford Stage, where he has overseen 15 productions, including Helen Edmundson's "The Clearing" and Lanford Wilson's "Book of Days."
