Works by Paul Hindemith and Henri Dutilleux will be performed by oboist Cheryl Priebe Bishkoff and pianist Maria de los Angeles Rivera at 8 p.m. Friday, October 6, in the Skinner Recital Hall, Vassar College. The concert, sponsored by the Department of Music, is free of charge and open to the public.
The program features six pieces from Lambert's Clavichord, Op 41 along with Sonate by Dutilleux, Sonata da Camera by Jean Berger, and Sonate by Hindemith.
Bishkoff, a visiting lecturer in oboe at Vassar College, is known for her inspirational musicality, glorious sound, and performing style. Currently in her sixth season as principal oboist for the Rhode Island Philharmonic, Bishkoff also leads the oboes of Slee Sinfonietta, Fredonia Chamber Players, and Bethlehem Bach Festival Orchestra. She has served as acting principal for the Buffalo Philharmonic and previously played principal in the Albany, Lancaster (Ohio), Wheeling, and Virginia symphonies. She maintains a large private studio in Newburgh. Bishkoff has recorded on the Dorian label.
Rivera, a visiting lecturer in music at Vassar College, recently performed in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as well as Merkin, Steinway, and Alice Tully halls in New York City. Rivera was recently invited to perform for the International Music Festival of Kyoto, Japan. In addition to teaching at Vassar, she teaches piano privately.
